Workplace Anger and Time to Rage

An iceBREAKer your employees will actually enjoy
By Jessica Korzyniewski
It’s 6 AM, the alarm clock rips you out of your deep sleep. Your mind begins to focus and you realize...it’s Monday: time for work. Your chest tightens, your pulse quickens, your mind starts racing with to-do lists, deadlines and the nagging voice of Larry in accounting pestering you for your spending reports.
Sound familiar? According to the Attitudes in the American Workplace VII report “80% of workers feel stress on the job, nearly half say they need help in learning how to manage stress and 42% say their coworkers need such help.” Chances are your cubicle neighbor, the forklift driver in the warehouse, the receptionist and the custodian are all feeling the same stress and anger related to their job as you.
YOU’RE ANGRY AT YOUR CO-WORKERS, THEY’RE ANGRY TOO
If we step outside of ourselves for a moment, what becomes clear is our anger and stress levels are not unique. Perhaps Larry in accounting is nagging you for expense reports because his boss has threatened to fire him if they’re not turned in on time. Maybe the receptionist Carl, the guy with the master’s degree in business management, blew you off this morning because he feels undervalued and frustrated by the menial tasks he performs every day. You know Karen in HR? She may have just been passed up for promotion, again, despite her constant hard work and unwavering loyalty to the company. She’s pissed, Carl’s disillusioned, Larry is stressed, and you, you’re ready to break something.
Time to Rage believes we’ve spent too long letting anger drive us apart. It’s time to let it bring us together. Instead of storming down to accounting to let Larry have it, send an interoffice memo asking him to join you for a quick session at Time to Rage. Even better, bring the whole department.
BREAK UP THE ROUTINE
Bosses, HR departments, head honchos and big wigs alike should take heed. It’s time to lose the lame ice breakers and instead have contentious co-workers literally break something together. A Time to Rage session is the perfect company outing and team-building experience. A 2000 Integra Survey reported “14% [of those surveyed] said they worked in an environment where equipment or machinery was damaged due to workplace rage.” Lucky for you, the rage experts at Time to Rage have their breakables inventory stocked with your employee’s (least) favorite office equipment. Let your employees break our stuff, so they don’t break yours. We have:
But please, don’t let this list hinder your creativity: you are encouraged to bring in any item that insights fury within you.
Ready to start mending fences while busting breakables? Book your session now!
